Cement fiberboard (also referred to as fiber cement and cement board) is an environmentally friendly, engineered product that makes a great siding for your home. One of the main selling points is that does not carry the un-sustainable qualities of vinyl or regular wood.
Fiber cement is a viable siding product. Whereas vinyl, wood, and aluminum may grasp more in terms of market share of exterior sidings, cement board is increasing in popularity as the fastest growing siding product in the United States.
Cement board offers a long life, is recyclable at the end of its useful life, and installs like wood siding making it easier for those experienced with traditional installation. It is a durable material that resists cracking, denting and normal deterioration It also holds paint well, and helps lower indoor noise levels – all benefits above those of its traditional siding counterparts. Fiber cement also offers very long warranties – usually 50 years to lifetime – and boasts zero firespread. It is also resource efficient utilizing scrap and waste materials in its manufacture. The composition is mostly concrete – and it is possible to find products that replace up to 25% of the portland cement binder with fly ash, a waste by-product of the coal industry.
