For homeowners with high utility costs and high water usage installing a residential heat pump water heater may be a great solution for economical hot water.

The E-Tech heat pump water heater can save 60% or better on electric energy costs. The savings are measurable, and the hot water is plenty. The unit can keep up with the hot water requirements of the average family by making 200-300 gallons of hot water a day. This is far more than the average 64 gallons used by most residential customers.

E-Tech R-106-K5 is the latest model in a long line of E-Tech energy saving Heat Pump Products that generate hot wate while reducing costs. The costo of water go down and your power bill is reduced because considerably more energy is transfered as heat to the water in the tank, than is used to operate the pump.

E-Tech R-106-K5 unit that mounts on top of the water heater itself. This unit integrates into the hot water storage tank and requires knowledge of plumbing and electrical procedures. We do recommend a certified installer be used to install this model.

Not happy with the durability and or customer service ! I am in the Energy Efficiency Business (kesspray.com) I consult, design, install HVAC and Spray Insulation.
I bought and installed a E-Tech HPWH a little over a year ago.
It quit and the entire coil was froze over, I called and was treaty very rudely and I was told to bad call a plumber only 1 year warranty. Well I had receipt and it was less than a year.
I then brought this to his attention , who I was, there attitude changed from when I was a nobody…. I was promised a new unit last week… I still have not seen it.. Call me before you purchase…. I actually have sold 100’s for these and have one of their units on my page

I too have a model B108. It has performed well however I have had to have one compressor replaced several years ago by Aircon Hawaii, a company from Hilo Hawaii. Now Aircon says the water pump has failed. They were suppose to quote both a new unit and the replacement cost of a water pump. They have not quoted a new water pump or made any reference as to if a replacement unit even exists. They said we recommend the unit be replaced with no other options given.

1. Is Aircon Hawaii the only Dealer in Hilo Hawaii?
2. Does the water pump for the model B108 exist and if so where?
3. Are any replacement parts available or is the unit completely out of production?

Thank you for your help.

I have had my R106K since March of 1989. It was worked flawlessly until November 2008. It is noisy, but not a problem, it is in my garage. like any other noise you get use to it. I have a family of five and this hot water heat pump has dave me one hundred dollars a month. With savings like that what is a little noise. I live out in the country and the noise level is not as bad as living in the city within a few miles of an airport. I will buy another as doon as possible.

I am a builder and just today I helped my plumber install “Air Generate” Air tap. Very easy. Took less than an hour. This could make me the local “Green Guru”

If interested in HPWH, check our AirTap from AirGenerate (www.airgenerate.com). I have been using it since January and am totally impressed. It is easy to install (less than an hour). The company seems to be doing well so hopefully they will be able to stay in business longer than those in the past.

Since the mid-1970s I used the heat pump model B108 120vac then in the late-80s purchased another B108 240vac. Now the compressor motor is not working. I’m currently looking for a replacement. Do you have a representative in Hawaii?

I have had a HWHP for the past 25 years. It’s and Airtemp, they are no longer in business ( bought out). It has lower my electric bill at least.00 a month when I use it to heat my hot water and aircondition my house in the summer time. I live underground in an earth sheltered house (roof is covered with dirt too). My HWHP is finally dying and I’m going to Georgia to get another one this year. I wish there was a dealer in Ohio.

I bought an E-Tech heat pump water heater in 1988 through a program with Alabama Power Company (a Southern Company affiliate). I have been well pleased with the performance heating water and dehumidifying a large basement. It also air-conditions (cools) the basement in the summer. A total of 2400 square feet of surface area is a very confortable in the summer. It made a great improvement in the moisture problem that I have in our basement. When the heat pump has hade enough time to warm the 60 gallon tank electric water heater tank it provided all to the hot water needed for a house hold of 2 adults and 3 teenagers along with hotwater needs for dishwashing, lundry and home canning. I observed a .00 a month swing in the average bills when it was operating and when not. I did have to have some repair work done 2 different times one under warranty and another later. That was when I observed the difference in the monthly utility bills. I am in the market for a replace ment unit now.

The monthly operating cost of our E-Tech Heat Pump is NO MORE THAN SIX DOLLARS…PER MONTH. For some reason the dollar amount in my original posting did not appear.

I have one of the earlier E-Tech models that does not sit on top of the HW heater, it sits beside the HW heater in the basement of a 110 year old house in cold Wisconsin. It is wired to a seperate electric meter and connected to a 80 gal. HW tank. When I installed it, I also installed 240 volt indicator lamps to the HW heater elements so I could see when they were actually providing backup water heating. We have to really use a lot of hot water before the top element comes on…2+ showers, laundry and dishwasher all in row before the top element comes on. We have learned how to use hot water without the backup elements coming on and save more money. Our electric bill for the hot water heating is usually NO MORE than .00 per month. The basement stays nice and dry year-round thanks to the dehumidification of the heat pump, even at 42 degrees in the winter. Would I buy another one? You bet!

I have one of the old E-Tech R106K, probably the first edition. It has been in service since the early ‘90s, and performed flawlessly, saving energy and money all that time. It is running as I write this. Only drawback is, installed in a downstairs utility room, it is noisy.

It is now showing signs of wear. Some of the cooling fins on the evaporator are corroded and crumbling, and the compressor is making a rattling noise that I am told could be the precursor to a compressor failure, although it has been making that noise for several years. Hopefully I can replace it when I need to,with a quieter unit.

EXPERIENCED TWO OF THESE UNITS IN BUILDER MODEL HOME GARAGES YEARS AGO. THEY WERE GREAT. THEY COOLED THE GARAGE/SALES OFFICE AND HEATED THE WATER AT THE SAME TIME. I AM TRYING TO GET ONE FOR MY OWN HOME NOW.I HAVE A 80 GAL. ELEC.UNIT NOW FOR A 8 PERSON HOUSEHOLD AND MY ELEC. BILL IS OVER 0/MO. IN THE SUMMER AND 0 IN THE WINTER WITH NO AC ON.

Installed one of these over 2 years ago and completely satisfied with the quantity and temperature of the hot water. The low temperature basement dehumidification was one of the primary reasons for installing since even ‘low temp’ stand alone dehumiifiers provide very little if any dehumidification below 58 deg and the basement is 44 deg F in spring. (We have a ‘low temp’ dehumiidifier, but it uses lots of power and spends 90% or more of the time defrosting and not working below 58deg.)

Small problem with the noisy fan. The blade slipped down on the shaft and was hitting the long motor screws and squeaking. Installed a shaft collar to prevent this.

I havn’t used this make… but I have one that came from a company in Maine.

It was really simple to install and runs on 110v. I’ve had it running for about a year now and am saving 50-60% on my elctric bill.

great concept.it’s just too bad that there hasnt been more market penetration. every thing that it does is in your favor,it heats your water, dehumidifies your basement, and cools it. whats not to like. getting one serviced, however, is something else entirely different.
