R-Control SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) are a strong structural system consisting of Perform Guard Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) insulation laminated to oriented strand board (OSB) forming a structural panel. R-Control Structural Insulated Panels are used for walls, roofs, and floors. They resist loads caused by wind, snow, and seismic activity.

Energy Efficiency
A 4 1 / 2 ” thick R-Control Structural Insulated Panel wall was tested against 2×4 and 2×6 traditionally framed walls. The R-Control Structural Insulated Panel significantly outperformed 2×4 stud walls and also outperformed thicker 2×6 stud walls. Results are conclusive, 4 1 / 2 ” R-Control Structural Insulated Panels have better whole wall R-value than 2×6 batt insulated construction.
R-Control Structural Insulated Panels have passed structural and fire tests as prescribed by national building code authorities. Load tests include transverse, vertical compression, and racking shear loading. Fire tests include corner room burn and fire exposure under load.
Treated To Resist Termites
R-Control incorporates a thick core of rigid Perform Guard EPS termite resistant insulation. Perform Guard is made under a patented process which uses a natural mineral that is formulated to resist termites and builds it right into the insulation.

I’m wondering if anyone who has used SIP panels has had any experience with ants getting into and eating the insulation. The house is only 7 years old, and it is a mess!!

The only way to build a house or shop. I have built two houses and one shop with these panels, they are great! putting up the walls is really simple. The panels come with instructions just stand them up and screw them down. Takes two to three people to put up wall sections . They go up so fast and you don’t have to search for studs when putting up siding or sheet rocking. The walls are strait and true. When completed heating cost are greatly reduced compared to stick built. Put it this way it costs the same to heat a single wide trailer house as a 5-6 bedroom house. I would recommend R-Control Sips to anyone.

Nothing but trouble. From the cotractor to the manufacture. R-control out of Bozman MT. & Koemans constrution cost me more than they are werth.

In 1993 I built and occupied (and still do) a home of two octagonal structures ( one larger, one smaller) connected by a skybridge. Panels throughout each structure are the same width. We used 13 panels per building. These oversized custom fabricated panels were delivered by R-Control on time and on spec. House is 1450 sq.ft. total and is easily scaleable up or down. All electric, which has been beneficial due to fluctuating natural gas prices in our area. Energy savings( the heating/cooling component) over a similar-sized stick-built are an estimated 30%. Another unexpected benefit….the house never squeaks, or pops. If you leave the back door ajar upstairs and close the front door downstairs, the upstairs door still pulls itself shut….after 14 years. The house is that tight. Windows and sky-light are twin paned and gas filled. Three bedrooms, 2.5 baths, two-story, tri-level and you don’t feel crowded, even though it’s only 1450 sq. ft. R-Control panels made this concept feasible. We built on a lot that was discounted in price because it’s shape was considered unbuildable for conventional house plans. Entire construction project was built for per sq. ft. less than the prevailing rates back in ‘93. And I was a first time owner-builder. After the foundations, the two totally enclosed structures were erected in just 3.5 days using a two man crew and a crane w/an operator. City values the property identically to the ranch style houses in our neighborhood. I’d buy R-Control SIPs again.
