The HV1000 and HV1600-G are radical designs in whole house cooling fans. Engineered to reduce indoor air temperature, the HV pushes the hot air out of the house through the attic and replaces it with cooler outside air. The HV utilizes twin, high-tech, super efficient fan motors to minimize noise and power consumption. Our systems have the industry’s only automatic door assembly, providing an air-tight seal with an insulating value of R-22.
The HV should be placed on the framing between the space to be cooled and the attic. In most cases that means the attic floor, but the HV can also be mounted vertically to cool cathedral or vaulted spaces. Locate the system as close to the center of the home as possible for an even draw throughout the home.
I have the HV-1600 installed and cannot use the high setting without turning the tv up so loud in my living room 30ft away that it is annoying to my neighbors. It is like a model airplane engine running in my hallway. The system is installed in the hallway at the junction to all my bedrooms. They said it was whisper quiet, right….
In the low mode (the loud but not obnoxious mode) it takes about three hours to drop 2 degrees from 80 to 78 when it is 75 outside. my house is 1425sq feet with proper attic venting. This morning, after running all night the house is at 75deg and it is 68 outside and the front door was open all night and all the windows vented. Very low flow in my opinion.
It is only controlled by a wireless remote. this is touted as an advantage but it is a royal pain in the butt. The remote has about a 25% connection rate with the system and that is with me standing right under it. Most of the time I stand there for a few minutes pressing the button on or off to get it to turn on/off. This is with fresh batteries!
Never again with this brand, great marketing, sold as the end all be all by the contractor but not anywhere worth the price. I am looking into other brands with higher flow and much lower noise.
Trust me, you will be disappointed with this fan.
The newer generation of quiet, energy efficient whole house fans like the Tamarack Technologies HV-1000 can replace the entire volume of air in a 1500 square foot home in about 12 minutes. Used overnight, a small whole house fan can lower the interior temperature of the home to nearly the same temperature as the outside air, typically about 60-degrees here in Kent. The whole house fan is expensive to install, costing around 0 plus an additional 0 for professional installation. When in use, they draw about the same amount of power, and are as quiet as, a typical window fan. One downside is that a whole house fan can only cool the home if the outside air temperature is lower than the inside air temperature. Therefore, during our occasional 90+ degree heat waves when the overnight temperature only dips to 70-degrees, a whole house fan will only provide minimal cooling.
I believ one key thing to remeber is that the Tamarack Technologies HV-1000 is designed for a 1500 square foot home or less. If your home is larger, then you will need to use more than one unit or one of Tamarack Technologies larger whole house fans like the HV-1600 .
I bought this as a DIY project for my home a few years ago. I am a middle aged woman with moderate home improvement skills. I boxed in the area from the attic, cut the whole, laid on the sealer, set the unit on the box, ran the wiring down the wall, screwed on the grille, and then called an electrician to “hook ‘er up”. He did and the unit has purred on flawlessly. Now I could have wired it for power but was unsure of the small secondary wire for “ON” as the instructions were vague. You need the “ON” light since it is so quiet you can not always tell that it is working. The doors that seal the opening, function perfectly. I am still thrilled with this fan and you will be too.
The fans work for small houses (less than 1500 sq feet).
But NOT for larger houses.

Also somehow the company tamarack has managed to to put a lot marketing literature about its product out on the internet and it is very hard to
get good real use reviews of their product.
